George Soros made the largest transfer of $18 billion

 
George Soros has made one of the largest transfers of all time to his Open Society Foundations. This is the largest transfer of wealth ever made by a private donor to a single foundation.
The donation was made in secret over the past several years and had only been disclosed very recently. The donation has transformed Open Society into the second-biggest philanthropic organisations in the United States, after Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

New Push for Government Science Funding gets philanthropists talking


 
According to Inside Philanthropy, as much as Americans love science, it is a different story when it comes to paying for it. A study done by ScienceCounts shows a result that only one in four would believe government’s role in funding research is irreplaceable.
To counter this problem, private funders have joined several professional societies and a couple of corporate partners in support of ScienceCounts to protect government funding of science by bolstering public support.

Getting students involved in philanthropy

Betsy Banks, director of Case Western Reserve University’s Center for Civic Engagement and Learning in Cleveland along with the director and presidents of the university said that the university engages students through its center because it’s a “one-stop shop” for students to get involved. This is the way to get students in philanthropy at an early age.
Last year, the college embedded the chapter into its human service class where students get t learn about fundraising. For their final exam, they would be able to pitch their ideas to a panel of donors.
